August 2015 Favourites

Another new month and another new crop of things I absolutely loved. August was a very big month for my little life and I've spent a large amount of this month reevaluating certain aspects of my life.
As they days go on and I work harder and harder towards my goals, I find I have less time than I used to. Less time means I've started focusing my attention of products that can get a job done quickly and to the absolute best of its ability, much like what I expect for myself. Let's get into what's been putting a smile on my face this month.

This product hopped onto my radar back in July of this year, Kiehl's was running a 4 week #changeyourskin challenge with a few of my fellow South African beauty bloggers. I had never tried Kiehl's before and was so interested in reading the changes that this product was making to woman's skin all over South Africa. I've spent the greater part of the last 2 years trying to fix my skin (you can read more about my skin troubles here) I've finally gotten my breakouts relatively under control, but now I have quite a few scars left and I wanted a product that would aid in my skin becoming it's once youthful self. Now you're probably saying "Why didn't you just get scar oil", you have a valid point, but as I get older I want to start investing in my skincare now. So off I went to Kiehl's and placed down my first deposit into my skincare investment fund. That evening I put on my 3 drops and went to bed, to say I woke up with improved skin would be an understatement. I'm not going to delve to deeply into the changes in this post as I have another planned to show you guys just how amazing this product is. Now although I am all for investing in my skin, I know that laying out R 700 for a product can cause mild heart failure, so I began my investigation. You can get 20 drops per 1ml of liquid. So a 30ml bottle holds 600 drops. If you use 3 drops per night, that gives you 200 nights of product use. Calculate that into Rand usage per night, you're looking at R 3.50 a night, roughly R 105 a month. Tell me you can't afford a small investment of R 105 a month to better your skin?

The second one is this facial emulsion from Benefit Cosmetics, and no the name doesn't give you any clues as to what actually the product is used for. Basically I received this little tester bottle above when I went and purchased some other goodies, and to be honest I'm a little sad I didn't get the full sized product. Any way, I've gone off on a tangent again, this product is actually a sunscreen. But not just your everyday ordinary sunscreen, this one is oil free and hydrates your skin. To be honest when I first fell in love with it I didn't know it did all these fancy things, I just knew I loved how my skin felt after using it. It leaves your skin feeling soft, hydrated and protected from the sun, it also works brilliantly under foundation for a flawless finish. A little goes a long way, I unfortunately couldn't implement my super nerdy math skills for this one, but its definitely worth it!

Concealer, a girl's best friend! Yes diamonds are nice, but can they cover multiple blemishes at once? And under eye circles? Well I suppose it could distract from them, but that's only for so long. If you haven't yet given this mini tube of greatness a try, you really should. Not only is it super affordable but it blends seamlessly into the skin. The coverage is brilliant for everyday wear and if you are looking for a brand that covers multiple shades, then L.A Girl is the one to go for. I've picked up three different shades, a lighter one for highlighting, darker for contouring and one the same colour as my foundation to cover my face demons. It has a nifty little applicator brush on the tip, which with some time may cause a blockage, but for now it seems to be perfect. I purchased mine at Dischem.

If I haven't already made it abundantly clear in this post, I'm all about convenience lately. Part of that is getting stuff done without wasting time. Nothing wastes more time than wet nails, let's be serious, peeing is completely out of the question let alone doing the damn dishes. So in order for me to get back to my everyday boring tasks, I use this little bottle of unicorn blood to dry my nails in record fast time. I love Essence and they have created yet another product that I'd proudly leave as an inheritance to my children. I pop one drop on each nail, wait a few minutes and continue with my day. Obviously I'm not saying that you can go out and make a sandcastle straight after putting this on, but it does help prevent those pesky smudges and clothing marks.

What? What is this, something that is not a beauty product, holy moly the world is going to end. Seriously though, SnapChat has taken over my life. If you're not familiar with this app, it's basically a platform where you can share videos or images with either the people you follow directly, or you can upload the content to "My Story" and all of your followers can see it. All of your content only lasts for 24 hours and then it disappears never to be seen again...unless someone screenshots it. I personally love SnapChat for the simple reason that you get an inside look into other peoples lives. The majority of people I follow show their personality in all of it's technicolour glory and you get to know the person better. I love the fact that I can share parts of my day with people and not worry about if i'm following a theme or not, I clearly enjoy letting my freak flag fly on this platform! Feel free to follow me if you would like to see a few behind the scenes (me with no makeup on running around like a freak) of my life.

Lastly, my favourite YouTuber's this month. I'm one of those people that likes certain things and is then reluctant to try something new and when I finally do then I really love it and realise I was silly in the first place and really its just a ridiculous cycle!!! Sho! So in August I came across two YouTubers that I had hear about before but had never really gotten round to watching. First is Hannah Hart. I found her through the video she did with Ingrid Nilsen. She has amazing segments on her channel, but my favourite by far is My Drunk Kitchen. Basically she drinks and cooks and films it. Her personality is amazing and her laugh just draws you in, clearly a huge fan of hers. Another awesome YouTuber is Jaclyn Hill. I found Jaclyn through SnapChat and started watching her makeup tutorials. I have watched many a tutorial in my time, but the way Jaclyn explains in depth every move that she is making, makes me appreciate the art of makeup a whole lot more. I have learnt so much from her channel that I feel more confident now when applying and trying new make up. So if you find yourself with nothing to watch this weekend, head over to these ladies and let me know what you think!

What have you been loving lately, let me know, I'd love to try new things!

Until next time...
