Since Benefit Cosmetics touched down on South African shores, every man and his dog (or lady and her wallet) have headed to their counters and shared their thoughts on the various products they have bought. As mentioned in my August favourites post, I have been on a mission lately to find products that make life easier!
I made my way to the Benefit counter at Sandton City and began to make yet another deposit into my Skin Investment Account. I struggle with hormonal breakouts which don't always dry out or disappear at the best of times, so I was looking for something that could help.
To be dead honest with you I had never heard of Boo Boo Zap before, I honestly didn't even know Benefit had a skincare range. So when the lady at the counter handed me this tiny tube and told me it would sort out my breakouts, I immediately made the purchase, without checking the R 198 price tag.
Once I picked up on the cost I hoped to all hell that this 7.4ml oddly named tube would work for me.
Benefit claims that this fast acting acne treatment purifies and dries out blemishes, while reducing the appearance of redness and the blemish itself. The product can be used on all skin types without causing irritation.
I've used my fair share of breakout zappers in my day, and the one thing that always sits with me is that nervous feeling as you are about to put the product onto a blemish, you know you are about to be greeted with a painful sting. For me the sting is not ideal but at least I feel like the product is working...like it's sucking the life out of the blemish never to be seen again. With Boo Boo Zap however, the product is extremely gentle. Another nifty little thing, that I love, is the fact that this product can be worn under makeup. If you have used a blemish treatment before, you will know that a gel like formula is what is most commonly available, this then tends to peel off of your skin and make it look as if your face is melting, it's kinda gross. This however is a clear liquid that you can apply directly to the blemish.
Now I wouldn't be an honest blogger if I didn't tell you the things that I'm not fond of. To be honest with you, the applicator (if you could call it that) is ridiculously less than ideal.
It is literally just a hole, you need to dispense the liquid directly onto your skin. So after much experimentation I have devised the best way to get the most from the product:
❤︎Wash your hands!
(You cannot get rid of a bacterial infection if you are carrying bacteria on your hands)
❤︎Place your finger over the top of the opening.
❤︎Gently tip tube until small amount is visible. Keep your finger firmly on the top before setting upright again.
❤︎Place product directly onto blemish.
For some of us this may have seemed ridiculously simple, but at one point I was contemplating just placing the top directly over my blemish and tipping my head back...not so smart for trying to keep things as hygienic as possible.
Other than the fact that this tiny tube can slip into your handbag without taking up any space, you can apply the product over makeup. For me this seems a little strange to be placing on a product that reduces blemishes over a product that is often the cause of blemishes.
All in all this product did work for me. I wouldn't say that it was instantaneous in ridding my skin of blemishes, but with continuous application it did reduce the appearance and then eventually dry up the blemish completely without leaving a scar.
Would I recommend that everyone go out and purchase the product? If you have the funds to spend and you are looking for a higher end product then yes, but don't break the bank to get this bad boy in your life, there are plenty of budget friendly options that I will most likely be repurchasing first.
Until next time...
Definitely want to get this one asap. I haven't seen it advertised anywhere apart from here but I am a sucker for great packaging and this gets a thumbs up in my book!
